Wat Ahong Silawat
Location: Amphoe Bueng Kan
Wat Ahong Silawat is situated in Amphoe Mueng, 21 km from the town centre. It lies on the
bank of Mekong River. The temple has been renovated and the environs have been improved with
essential facilities for monks and visitors. The river in front of the temple is the deepest
point but in the dry season during the low ebb, rocks in different formation appear in the
middle of the river.
Luang Pho Yai at Wat Photaram
Location: Amphoe Bueng Kan
Located in Wat Photaram, Baan Krai, Moo 5, Amphoe Bueng Kan, Luang Pho Yai is 2 m wide, 2.10 m
from base to head and 0.90 m from knees to neck. The image is in Subduing Mara gesture and highly
revered by the residents in the province in consequence of the miracle that happened many years
ago.
Chao Mae Song Nang
Location: Amphoe Bueng Kan
Chao Mae Song Nang statue located in front of Bueng Kan Hospital is a revered by the residents in
the province. Annually, the residents hold a festival to appease them to protect the city and its
residents to be safe from danger as well as to bring luck to those who make their living by the river.
Location: Amphoe Pak Khat
This monastery is located at Pak Khat , Tambon Pak Khat, approximately 500 meters from Amphoe Pak Khat
township. From Amphoe Muang one can use Highway No.212 for 90 kilometers to Don Pak Khat. Wat Sawang Arom
is located on a hilly area featuring rock formations, cliffs, and stone platforms with shade trees providing
a peaceful atmosphere. There is also a small stream flowing by the main shrine hall. The hall is built in the
shape of a bell and houses a sacred Buddha image. From the area of the main shrine hall, one may enjoy a
beautiful bird's eye view of both Thailand and the Lao PDR.
Phu Wua Wild Life Reserve Area
Location: Amphoe Bung Khla
Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Ban Don Chik; 3 km from Bung Khla district and take a right turn
for a further trip of around 6 km. It has an area of around 186 sq. km. or 116,562 rai, covering some part
of Bueng Kan, Bung Khla, Seka and Bueng Khong Long districts, and nearly bordering Laos. This sanctuary is
around 150-300 m above sea level. Types of forest here are mostly Deciduous Dipterocarp Forest, Dry Evergreen
Forest and Moist Evergreen Forest. Some parts of the area are sandstone mountain ridges, rocky grounds and
grass fields.

Location and Boundary
The Phu Wua Wild Life Reserve Area occupies an area of 186.5 square kilometers, or 116,562 rai,
covering areas of Amphoe Bung Kan, Amphoe Seka, Amphoe Phon Charoen, and King Amphoe Bung Khong Long,
all within Nong Khai Province.
• Geographic Characteristics
The Phu Wua Wild Life Reserve Area is located on the northernmost part of the region, almost
adjacent to the Laotian border where the two borders run parallel to the Mekhong River. The area
is about 150-300 meters above sea level. Natural jungles include Teng Rang Forest, dry evergreen
forest, and wet evergreen forest.

Wild Animals
The area is the habitat for many kinds of wild animals, including elephants, tigers, leopards,
bears, palm civet, pheasants, wild fowl, monkeys, gibbons, and several species of birds.
• Traveling to Phu Wua Wild Life reserve Area
It is accessible from Nong Khai township by Highway No.212 to Amphoe Bung Kan, a distance of 135 kilometers.
There are two routes of daily bus service operated by the Transport Company Limited, i.e.Route No.4193 leaving
Nong Khai for Bung Kan every hour, and Route No.244 leaving Udon Thani for Nakhon Phanom every 45 minutes.
There ore two sightseeing routes in Phu Wua Area:
Route 1: The Phu Wua Wild Life Reserve Area Office Route: Leave Bunq Kan for Ban Chaiyaphon (24 kilometers);
then from Ban Chaiyaphon to Ban Put Sawat (5 kilometers); turn right (for 2,5 kilometers) to arrive or the Area Office.
From here one can walk for 3 kilometers to Tham Fun and to Huo Phu, a distance of 1.9 kilometers more.
Route 2: Chanaen. Waterfall Check Point Route: Leaving Ban Bung Kan
for Ban Chaiyaphon (24 kilometers), continue to Bung Thung Sai Jok (Ban Chaiyaphon-Seka Rood) for another distance of
15 kilometers. Then make a left turn at Ban Thung Sai Jok and go 7 kilometers to Chanaen Waterfall, One can walk from
the Check Point to Chanaen Waterfall, 1.6 kilometers, or walk to Tham Chan Pha, only 500 meters. Another route is from
Bang Chaiyaphon-Thung Sai Jok-Don Siat, a distance of 22 kilometers; then make a left turn to the Fall through a 6
kilometer road.

Areas of Interest
On top of the eastern region of Phu Tog is a wide stone platform having a very beautiful design caused by rain erosion.
The altitude of this spot is about 330 meters, thus providing clear views for a considerable distance-even locations such
as Phu Kwai, Phu Ngu. and Phu Mo Kao in the Lao PDR.

Tham Fun Waterfall
Tham Fun Waterfall is located in Ban Phu Sawat, Tambon Nong Doen. Drive on Highway 212, and 7 km. before reaching Bung Khla district, turn
right to go on for around 4 km. The waterfall is encompassed by a timber forest with a scenic view of the northern Phu Wua.
A walking trail passes a rocky ground to the cascade which is seen along the long narrow channel on the sandstone cliff. There
is water only in the rainy season.

Tham Phra Waterfall
Tham Phra Waterfall is located in Ban Tham Phra, Tambon Sok Kam, Amphoe Seka. It is around 34 km. from Seka district. Like
other waterfalls at Phu Wua, it has water only in the rainy season. A monastic residence or Samnak Song here is tranquil and
shady. Walking down to the rocky ground at the back, visitors will find a valley with a deep bottom of around 200 sq. m. where
a waterfall flows down the valley. The waterfall is on a cliff of around 100 m wide and 50 m high. Visitors can play in the pool.

Chet Si Waterfall
Chet Si Waterfall is located in Ban Don Siat, Tambon Ban Tong, Amphoe Seka. This very beautiful waterfall, especially during the
rainy season, originates from a stream of Huai Ka-am and flows along a high sandstone cliff to spread over a long line.
The falling water that hits the rocks below causes a spray of water which gives rainbow colours when seen in sunlight. So
came the name “Namtok Chet Si,” which means a waterfall of seven colours.
How to get there:
Drive on Highway 212, and 12 km. before reaching Bung Khla district, turn right at Ban Chai Phon. Head for the waterfall,
past Ban Phu Ngoen and Ban Don Siat, for 28 km. Or from Phu Thok, take the route via Ban Na Tong and Ban Don Siat, totalling 14 km.
• Chanaen Waterfall
Chanaen Waterfall is located in Ban Phu Ngoen, Amphoe Seka. Originally, it was called “Namtok Tat Sanaen.” “Tat” literally
means a place where water flows. “Sanaen” refers to “summit” or “excellence.” This waterfall has its origin from Lam Huai
Sanaen. It is 100 m wide and has two tiers with an interval of 300 m. This is a large and beautiful waterfall which has water
only in the rainy season.
The path to the waterfall passes Khua Hin or a natural stone bridge of around 100 m long, where a
phenomenon of water disappearing under the bridge can be witnessed. A walk up to the second tier passes along a stream dotted
with boulders. Following the stream on its left bank, visitors will find a broad ground by a large pool. There is another small
waterfall called Namtok Bueng Chorakhe, rushing down to the pool.

Tham Chan Pha
This cave is located 500 meters from the stone bridge.
Nong Gud Thing
Location: Amphoe Bueng Kan
Nong Gud Thing is a large swamp covering 22,000 rai and 5 – 10 m deep. It has a
biodiversity with more than 250 species of aquatic animals and 20 species of indigenous
fish that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, 200 species of aquatic plant and
over 40 species of bird. It is the source of food and job for more than 2,000 families.
Due to its abundance, it is registered as the second wetland after Thale Noi in Song Khla
province.
Location: Amphoe Si Wilai
Phu Thok means an isolated mountain in Isan dialect. Located in Ban Na Kham Khaen, Tambon
Na Sabaeng, this sandstone range stands out and can be seen from a distance. It consists of
two hills: Phu Thok Yai and Phu Thok Noi. Previously, this area was dense woods with many wild
animals. Because of its tranquility, Phra Achan Chuan Kunlachettho, a meditation master, initially
established a meditation place here for Buddhists to practise the Buddha’s teachings.
Phu Thok Noi is where Wat Chetiya Khiri Wihan (Wat Phu Thok) is situated. This temple is the
starting point of a walk up to the top of Phu Thok, via a wooden bridge winding around the steep
mountain. The bridge was built with faith from monks, novices and villagers. The construction began
in 1969 and took five years to complete. This bridge is compared to a path of virtue that leads a
righteous man to leave a world and enter into emancipation by their own efforts and determination.
Phu Thok is still a meditation practice centre and a place for the community’s religious affairs.
Visitors shall be calm in manner and pay respect to the place. The bridge’s stairs to the mountain
top are divided into seven sections.
How to get there:
To get there Phu Thok is around 185 km. from the town of Nong Khai. Take Highway 212, past Pho Chai,
Pak Khat and Bueng Kan districts. Then, turn left to take Highway 222 and head for Si Wilai district.

From Si Wilai, take a left turn and go on for another 30 km., past Ban Na Sing, Ban Sai Ngam, to Ban
Na Kham Khaen and Phu Thok.
Tad Kinnaree Waterfall
Location: Amphoe Bueng Khong Long
One of the fascinating waterfall, Tad Kinnaree waterfall is located in Phulangka National Park, Baan Ang Na,
Moo 5. There are 5 tiers with a pond and big area of flat rock below the falls. Due to its beauty and convenience
to reach, it is now a popular spot amongst tourists.
