Ku Mahathat (Prang Ku Ban Kwao)
Location : Amphoe Muang
It is situated at Ban Kwao, Tambon Kwao, Amphoe Muang, 13 kilometres along Jaeng Sanit road from township area. It is an
archaeological site having construction age of over 700 years ago. It was built of sand stone in the shape of a square
tent having the height from the ground to the peak of eight meters, and the width of five meters. In the sanctuary there
are two earthenware idols in the attitude of sitting crossed-leg holding conch shell in between the two palms placing
against each other at the chest level. It is surrounded by the cloister having the single entrance in the east and the
Bannalai is situated in the southeast corner. There is only entrance into the main Prang and it is located in the east
too while the others on the rest of the three directions are false doors. Frames and lintels are made of sand stone and
the Fine Arts Department has finished the excavation already.
Location : Amphoe Nadun
This archaeological site was constructed of sand stone in Bayana style of art during Lop Buri period approximately from
1107-1157 A.D. during the reign of King Chaiya Woraman VII, the last emperor of the Khmer Kingdom. The construction was
made for the use as Celestial Place of Worship and Buddhist Place of Worship surrounding with sand stone cloister of 1.5
meters high while the Ku itself is approximately 10 meters high. The 7th Fine Arts Unit made excavation in the year 1971
and found many pieces of archaeological objects such as sand stone Buddha images, one in the attitude of multi-headed
naga's protection (Nag Prog), and another is Watcharathon Bodhisattava, etc.
Its location is in Tambon Ku Santarat, Amphoe Nadun. To reach there, one can go along Highway No.2040 passing Amphoe Kae
Dam, Amphoe Wapipathum, then, make a right turn to join Highway No.2045 (to Amphoe Nadun) for a distance of about one
kilometer where one can see the Ku on the right hand side
Location : Amphoe Wapi Pathum
Phra That Nadun was built to house the Lord Buddha’s relics found in a small pagoda in
the nearby area. It is assumed to be built during Dvaravati period in 8th – 10th
century A.D. Phra That features a pagoda built with 3 tiers. The first tier or the
base is used for ceremony which some may involve walking clockwise. The second and
third tiers are decorated with miniatures of Phra That at all 4 corners. The third
tier is where the bell-shaped pagoda stands.

How to get there: Take Highway No.2040 from Maha Sarakhram town centre,
pass Amphoe Jae Dam, Amphoe Wapipathum and turn right to Highway No.2045 to
Amphoe Nadun. It is 65 km from the town centre.
Mongkhon Standing Buddha
Location : Amphoe Muang
This Buddha image is as old as Muang Maha Sarakham, located at Tambon Khanthararat, Amphoe Kantharawichai along Highway No.213,
14 kilometres from township area (on the right side). It is a Buddha image of Dvaravati period made of red sand stone as same
as Ming Muang Buddha image. It has been said that the two Buddha images were made at the same time when there was a drought in
the area of Amphoe Kantharawichai, the man arranged to make Ming Muang Buddha image while the woman arranged to make Mongkhon
Standing Buddha. There was a great celebration of the two images after completion. However, there have been regular rainy
season causing perfect cultivations in the area since then.
Phra Phuttha Ming Muang
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Another name of this Buddha image is Suwan Mali made of red sand stone in Dvararavati period and people of Maha
Sarakham believe that this image maintains regular season for them. The image is housed in Wat Suwannawat, Mu 1,
Tambon Khok Phra, Amphoe Kantharawichai. To access there, one can travel through Highway No.213 (Maha Sarakham-Kalasin),
14 kilometres from the township area (on the left).
Isan Cultural & Art Center
Location : Amphoe Mueang

This center is located in the area of Rajabhat Institute Mahasarakham having pictures telling background and history
of north eastern arts including handicrafts such as weaving, various fabric patterns. In addition, there are also exquisite
palm leave recorded north eastern literature and slides cultures and traditions of the north eastern.
Location : Amphoe Mueang
This museum is situated in the area of Maha Sarakham township. Collections of north eastern antiques such as sema
stones, ancient Buddha images, door panels, carved ox-cart wheel cross bars having the age from 100 to 200 years are
stoned here. In addition, it also stores collections or northeastern literatures, Buddhist scriptures recorded on palm leaves.
Bueng Bon
Location : Amphoe Kosum Phisai
This large lake is situated at Tambon Hua Khwang, Amphoe Kosum Phisai, 100 meters from Kosamphi Park or two kilometres
from Amphoe Kosum Phisai township. It occupies an approximate area of 120 rai having an average depth of 2.50 meters.
The road around the lake which is five meters wide and 2,689 meters long was budgeted by Tourism Authority of Thailand.
It is another spot of relaxation for local people as well as their neighbors. To reach there, one can use the same route
of Kosamphi Park.
Location : Amphoe Na Chueak
Located in Nachuak District. The natural forest covered some 900 rai where cannot forger once visited. The water lake
from soil all the time makes it cold and pleasant to stay longer. The most interesting is The Meraly Crab, the colorful
fresh water crab that named Poo-Toon-Kramom by The Princess Churaphorn.
Location : Amphoe Kosum Phisai
It is situated at Tambon Hua Khwang, Amphoe Kosum Phisai on the bank of the River Chi. From the township area one can
travel through Highway No.208 for an approximate distance of 28 kilometres reaching Kosum Phisai 4-way intersection where
a journey is to be made through a 450 meter asphalt road to the Park. Kosampi Park occupies an area of 125 rai and was
announced as an arboretum on October 1, 1976 having various kinds of big tree providing shady area to the ground. There
is a natural reservoir with picturesque scenery and the park is a habitat of several kinds of bird and many hundreds of
unforceful monkeys. They are so friendly that tourists can hand them edible items.
North Eastern Arts & Cultural Research Institute
Location : Amphoe Mueang
Maha Sarakham University operates permanent exhibition for the public on official working days, half a day on Saturday
and closed on Sunday (if a request is made in advance the institute is pleased to specially welcome the audiences). An
audience can obtain knowledge on arts and cultures of the northeast, history of fabric weaving, applied local fabric
product, wickerwork and carpentry, metal casting, development of earthenware, household appliances, animal capturing
devices, musical instruments, literature, inscription of ancient languages including the outcome of student's artistic
works of the same period.
Ban Nong Khuan Chang
Location : Amphoe Mueang
This village is situated at Mu 7, Tambon Ban Song Khon, being a famous village of Maha Sarakham Province engaging in
weaving silk fabric, cotton fabric and making silk products to be sold to visitors. It is located 12 kilometres from
township area along Maha Sarakham-Kosum Phisai road where a left turn is to be made between Km, 47-48 along Highway
No.1027 to Ban Non Tan for another two kilometres distance to Nong Khuan Chang Village. it is the place where most
visitors pay a visit to make some shopping.
Location : Amphoe Mueang
This village is situated at Tambon Phaeng, Amphoe Kosum Phisai, engages in producing straw mats as an additive occupation.
To across the village from the township area, one can use Highway no.208 (Maha Sarakham - Kosum Phisai) where a left turn
is to be made between KM20-21 to join Kosum Phisai - Khon Kaen road totaling a distance of nine kilometres from Amphoe
Kosum Phisai and 38 kilometres from the province township area
Location : Amphoe Mueang
It is a large sized reservoir with an establishment of a fishery station having duty to perform the aqua-cultural work
for distribution of fingerlings to various northeastern provinces. It is located behind Maha Sarakham Teacher College,
some three kilometres from the township area. There surroundings of Loeng Chan Rapids are beautiful and people like to
relax over there on holidays.
Location : Amphoe Mueang
The village is located at Tambon Kwao, approximately five kilometres, along Maha
Sarakham - Roi-Et (208) from township
area where a left turn is to be made for another one kilometer along the compact
laterite road. It is a big village
having about 100 households and every of them engaged in pottery making occupation.
The pottery is used for water pot,
curry pot, etc. and the process is of the original ancient style.
Location : Amphoe Pak Chong
Khao Yai National Park consists of high mountain range such as Khao Rom with
its peak of 1,350 m above sea level, Khao Lam at 1,326 m, Khao Keaw at 1,292 m,
Khao Sam Yod at 1,142 m, Khao Fah Pha at 1,078 meters and some others. The park
covers vast grass field alternating with verdant forest. The landscape of the
north and the east smoothly slope down, while the south and the west rise up high.
The park is the source of 5 main rivers including Prachin Buri River, Nakhon Nayok
River, Lam Ta Kong River, Phraphlerng River and Muak Lek River. Khao Yai is
comprised of dry evergreen forests, dry deciduous forests, tropical evergreen
forests, Hill Evergreen Forest and grassland. The park is teemed with wildlife
including monkeys, over 320 species of birds, elephants, civets, squirrels,
porcupines, wild pigs and many others.
During rainy season between May and October, the forest in Khao Yai becomes lush
green with stunning waterfalls. Despite its high humidity, the beauty of the plants,
flowers and fresh and clean air beckon tourists to experience it. The cold season is
the most popular time to visit the Park as it has clear, sunny and cool weather,
ideal for hiking and sunset watching. Summer is still not bad due to its dense
forest which cools down the heat. The waterfalls may dry up during this season.

How to get there: Take Highway No.1 to Saraburi Province then turn right
onto Highway No.2 heading towards Pak Chong. Take Highway No.2060, continue for
about 20 km to the entrance of the National Park. It can also be reached via
Prachinburi route, take Highway No.305 to Nakhon Nayok and take Highway No.33
then turn left at Naresuan Ring Rd. to Highway No.3077, continue for approximately
10 km to the Park Office.
