A Trip in
Mukdahan should take at least 3 days. This includes a trip to
Sawannakhet, the second largest city of Laos, across the river.
The
Mung Muang Shrine
on Song Nang Sathit Road is believed to have been built at the same
time as the city itself.
The
Song Nang Phee Nong (Two Sisters) Shrine
on Samran Chai Khong Road near the immigration Office, is regarded
by the local people as a holy place along with the Mung Muang Shrine. At
these two sites, the people organize annual rituals.
Sri
Mongkol Tai Temple
is the sited of the famous Buddha statue of the province and Phra
Buddha Singh Song is a bronze Buddha statue at Sri Bun Rueng Temple on
Samran Chai Khong Road.
The
Thai-Lao Checkpoint
Sawannakhet in Laos is another point of interest. In Sawannakhet,
there are many sites to visit including the Dinosaur Museum,
lng Hung Stupa, Phon Stupa etc. The checkpoint is open daily from 8.00
till 17.00. In the area, several travel agencies are located.

Mukdahan
Tower
at the south side of visitors can see the panoramic view of Mukdahan,
Mekong River and Sawannakhet in a clear day at the top floor. The city
culture including the 7 tribes of indigenous people are on display.
The
Mukdahan National Forest
which is 17 kilometers form the city has several places for
visitors.
Phu
Pha Therb
is about 17 kilometers from the city located on the Mukdahan-Don Tan
highway. There are groups of rocks with various shapes such as
mushrooms, umbrellas, airplanes and crowns. And in each season,
different kinds of flowers bloom on and in between the rocks.

Phu
(Mount) Manorom
is 5 kilometers from the Muang District. On top of the Mount is a
stupa of Buddha's footprint. From there is a scenic view of the Mukdahan
city. The Mekong river and Laos' Sawannakhet.
Phu
Nang Hong
is on the way to Phu Pha Therb. It is geographically a stone plain
with forests and a swan-shaped rock located in the center of the plain.
Phu
Tham Phra
is the largest mount in the Mukdahan National Forest and has large
area with waterfalls in front of a cave. Several hundreds of wooden
Buddha statues and animal models can be seen inside.
Fah
Mue Daeng (Red Palm) Cave
on Phu Pha Therb looks like a stone shelter. Inside are pictures of
six red palms which are believed to date back for no less than 5,000
years.
Phra
Phuttha Sing Song
This bronze Buddha image from Vientiane is now enshrined at Wat
Sribunruang, Muang Mukdahan. During Songkran festival, the image is
carried out in a procession. |
