Surin City Pillar Shrine The Statue of Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Chang Wang
Location: Amphoe Muang
was erected in 1984 to commemorate the establishment of Surin Province by him. The monument is situated at the southern entrance to Muang Surin at the starting point of the Surin-Prasat road. The 2.2 meter bronze statue, with a mahout's hook in his right hand and a pair of swords on his back marks his bravery and also the province's reputation as the elephant city. This monument is dedicated to the first lord of the city. It is located at the southern entrance to the city in the area where the city's inner wall once stood. It was built in 1968. Located on Lak Mueang Road, 500 metres west of city hall, the shrine is a sacred icon of the city. At first, the shrine did not house any pillar. In 1968, the Fine Arts Department has designed a new city shrine and got golden cassia log from Mr. Prasith Maneekan, Amphoe Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi, and made it the city pillar. The log is 3 metres long and 1 metre long in circumcircle. The rite and celebration took place on March 15, 1974. Luang Pho Phra Chi, Wat Burapharam Location: Amphoe Muang
he image of the Buddha subduing Mara, Luang Pho Phra Chi is most revered by Surin people. It is not known when the images was built. Wat Burapharam is assumed to be constructed in Thon Buri or early Rattanakosin Period, dating back some 200 years. Surin National Museum
Situated at km. 4 of Surin-Prasat Road, on the left before bypass road. The museum features five areas namely geography, archeology, city history, ethnology, and heritages of the province. The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 9.00 am. to 4.00 pm.. It is close on Monday, Tuesday, and special holiday. Silk Weaving Villages
Location: Amphoe Muang
Silk Weaving VillagesSilverware and Silk Villages can be reached by taking the Surin-Chom Phra road (No. 214) to Km. 14-15, then 4 kilometres to the right. These villages are Ban Khawao Sinnarin, Ban Chok and Ban Sado, all nearby one another. The beautiful silverware and silk products made here are sold to shops and tourists.

In addition, Chan Rom village at Km. 9 on the Surin-Sangkha Highway cultivates Indian mulberry for silkworms that are then used to produce ancient-style silk designs and colors. Basketry is also made here.
Ban Bu Thom Basketry Village Location: Amphoe Muang
This Basketry Village is at Tambon Muang Thi on the Surin-Si Khoraphum road at Km. 14-15. When villagers are not harvesting, they make basketry from rattan to sell as household items and souvenirs. Located at Bn Dan Phatthana, Tambon Dan, this market is a trade centre at the border checkpoint for local Thais and Cambodians. Phanom Sawai Forest Park
Location: Amphoe Muang
Phanom Sawai Forest Park is located about 22 kilometers from Surin City Hall and accessible by the Surin-Prasat road, the distance of 14 kilometers, then further on a dirt road for another 6 kilometers. The park's major attraction is a triple-peaked hill with the first peak called Phanom Preah where Wat Khao Phanom Sawai was built among shady surroundings and the image of the Buddha bestowing favors known as Phra Phuttha Surin Mongkhon is enshrined. The second peak is Phanom Srei topped by a Buddha image of medium size. The third, Phanom Krol, is topped by an eight-porched hall in which an imitation of the Buddha's Holy Footprint is enshrined. The hill has been regarded a sacred place by the townspeople who on the first day of the new moon in fifth lunar month walk up to the hilltop to pay homage to the place. The day is a traditional holiday for Surin people. Huai Sanengis a reservoir under the irrigation project situated some 5 kilometers from Surin along the Surin-Prasat route with a left turn for another 4 kilometers along the irrigation channel. A royal residence was built here for the Princess Mother. Accommodation is also available for visitors. Ban Ta Klang Elephant Village
Location: Amphoe Chom Phra-Tha Tum
Ban Ta Klang Elephant Village This elephant village at Ban Ta Klang on Highway No. 214 (Chom Phra-Ta Tum) can be reached by going to Km. 36 and left for 22 kilometres. The locals here are called the Suai people. They are skilled in capturing, training and raising elephants. An elephant museum here displays a complete elephant skeleton, its organs, tools used to capture elephants, elephant-raising techniques, and the history and development of Surin elephants. Admission : 100 baht per person.
An elephant's museum was constructed at Ban Ta Klang under TAT's sponsorship to gather all elephant-related information and implements used in the Round-up.
